How To Pamper Yourself At Home
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we can’t help but feel some pressure—whether you’re a single girly like myself or in a relationship or a parent. Valentine’s Day will forever have us in a chokehold, but it can be a good thing as long as we remember to take time for ourselves. I am a firm believer that whether or not I am in a relationship during this time I should do something special for myself.
That can look like a range of things, perhaps getting a new handbag, or shoes, or checking out my Lueq cart and trying all those new beauty products. Whatever I have to do to make myself feel special, believe me, I’m doing it and you should, too.
Let’s dive into something not too many people talk about, self-care skills by age. The importance of self-care is learned very early on—maybe your mom or your dad would take you for manicures and pedicures regularly. Maybe they’d take you to the theater once a week to make sure you saw your favorite movie on the big screen versus waiting for the DVD.
Self-care skills are abilities that children gradually attain to give them more independence—from getting dressed, to feeding, and helping with chores—and as we develop into adolescence and adulthood that looks about the same with the inclusion of skincare, clothing, etc. When you lack self-care skills you are essentially practicing self-abandonment. Valentine’s Day can be tough to get through if you’re single and have come to rely on someone else for your happiness. As an independent baddie, though, you’ve got this.
If you’re spending Vday at home then you should for sure treat yourself to some new products to give you that dopamine hit you’d otherwise have received if you were getting gifts from a partner. Nothing makes me feel better than trying a new skincare product that can help enhance my natural beauty.
The way I see it is if I get myself into the habit of upkeep, then whether I am single or not I won’t be doing it for anyone else, it will always be for me. With that healthy mindset, you’re less likely to let yourself go and you’ll find that your relationships last longer.
An immediate recommendation from us here at She’s SINGLE is the Deep Hydration Aloe Gel Mist, retailing for just $21.95. Celebs like Adrianna Lima, Vivica A. Fox, Alyssa Milano, and Jessica Hall are fans, and who knows, maybe you will come to love it as well.
If you’re in the mood to spend a bit more—because heck, why not—you can also try the Raw Cacao Facial Mask from 52Nights. The mask offers deep hydration, is cruelty-free, and retails at $49 on the brand's website. No one is going to treat you better than you treat you, whether it’s a holiday or not so make sure to set the standard.
After all, it’s a holiday where you’re celebrating self and those closest to you (i.e. your mini-me). This onesie works great because the design is painstakingly adorable! A baby partying! Plus, the brand offers various sizes and its customer service is top-notch.
Remember, self-care starts at a young age and children emulate adults. If your child is seeing you embrace the day, pampering them and yourself it will soon become a learned behavior.
GALENTINE’S DAY!
If you were wondering if you should celebrate, consider this a sign to do so. So what is it? As an alternative to the above or in-addition to—whatever makes you happy—take the day to shower your besties with love. If your best friend has been hinting at trying a new mascara, surprise her with it, some wine, flowers, and maybe snacks.
This new way of celebrating Valentine’s Day is taking the world by storm as more and more women look to each other for emotional support. It can be hard feeling unloved, unwanted, or lonely, but the truth is, you’re none of that, you are what you say you are and the only thing you need to do is believe in yourself.
Another great way to celebrate is planning a few weeks ahead so that each friend can select a designated person to gift. Sort of like secret Santa among you all as girlfriends. Sounds cool, right? Yep.
Take it a step further and rent your favorite rom-com or comedy (I don’t recommend streaming because it can be a hassle switching and paying for multiple platforms). Here’s a list of our top favorite rom-com or comedy movies and they're all available on RedBox for as little as $1:

BOOK RECOMMENDATION - 'The Snows of Khione' by Lisa K. Stephenson.
Four centuries ago, humanity teetered on the brink of extinction following a devastating Artificial Intelligence war. As populations dwindled and the scars of a cataclysmic past loomed large, scientists proposed an unprecedented solution: the union of humans and the Modiri—mysterious beings of the sea, often known as mermaids. This alliance offered hope, promising offspring that could be human, Modiri, or a unique hybrid.
Enter Fiona, a courageous and curious half-breed, born of a human mother and a hybrid father. Straddling the line between two worlds, Fiona embodies both the potential and peril of this fragile coexistence. In a society where hybrids are often viewed as abominations, Fiona's quest for truth about her origins leads her to uncover hidden histories and buried secrets.
