Kim Kardashian’s Skims Campaign Featuring Goldie Hawn Sparks Outrage
The Kardashians have done it again (well, Kim)—angered social media users.
But what happened this time? As we know, the Kardashians are no strangers to rage marketing and publicity stunts to get fans and spectators to tune into their shows or mass-buy their products. However, when they involve some of our beloved stars, fans can’t help but take to their keyboards to express disappointment.
Goldie Hawn seems to be the latest celebrity to align herself with the Kardashians in a recent Instagram video, celebrating family time in matching Skims pajamas. The video clearly shows Hawn celebrating Christmas with a large feast alongside many of her family members, including daughter Kate Hudson. But while this is supposed to be a joyous occasion, fans are livid and have since flooded the actress’s comment section with grievances, some of which read:
- “This is the reason why tone-deaf, entitled celebrities are being canceled left and right. This is a perfect example of that. Blocked.”
- “I don’t know, what a strange thing to see. Also, clearly no respect for animals.”
- “I don’t feel good about it. Caviar, lobster, and all that stupid rich stuff.”
- “Oh, as much as I adore you, this is so out of touch. People are starving; people can’t even afford groceries. This is just gross.”

It seems the Kardashians may be aware that they’re fading into oblivion, considering they have not begun promoting the newest season of their Hulu show, The Kardashians. The show has not been doing well for some time, but despite this, they’ve managed to cling to hope and continue to release season after season in hopes that no one would notice.
However, video coverage they would normally receive on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, with creators sharing recaps or their take on the latest episodes, has plummeted by nearly 57%. In other words, no one is talking about the family, and they are, in fact, losing their influence. What does this mean for the family?
While the bulk of their revenue did come from the show, the family still has many investments and partnerships with larger brands outside of their niche in reality TV, which means we will never not see them. They will attend functions and speak at events, which will still garner them a hefty paycheck. As far as their businesses are concerned, the amount of marketing that goes into those is around the same as a small business from Ohio—almost none.
Maybe this is on purpose; maybe the plan was to eventually disappear into obscurity because, let’s face it, they aren’t doing anything newsworthy, at least not since Kim decided to do that Starbucks ad during a time when Starbucks was being canceled by customers for its support of Israel. In October 2023, Palestinian militants attacked Israel, killing 1,143 people, mostly civilians, thus beginning the Israel-Hamas war.
Israel responded by bombing the Gaza Strip and launching an invasion that has killed more than 34,000 Gazans as of April 2024. However, what is not being discussed is that the attack on Israel was in response to the Israeli occupation, blockade of the Gaza Strip, Israeli settler violence against Palestinians, restrictions on the movement of Palestinians, and imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians, whom Hamas sought to release by taking Israeli hostages.
With this information, many Americans have sided with Palestine and have since begun unfollowing and disregarding celebrities, stripping them of any influence and meaning in their lives. This was also fueled by the 2024 Met Gala when an influencer recited the famous Marie Antoinette line, “Let them eat cake,” which only further pushed for the celebrity blackout. Since then, with the rise of inflation and Sean “Diddy” Combs's latest arrest, where many celebrities have been implicated or hinted at being involved, more and more supporters, consumers, and fans have begun to shy away from “out-of-touch” celebs.
Hopefully, Goldie sees the outrage and deletes the video.
