She's Single: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Split

Nine years later, actor Orlando Bloom and his wife, singer-songwriter Katy Perry, have decided to call it quits. The couple began dating in 2016, briefly split in 2017, reunited in 2018, and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. In August 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove. Despite appearing to be one of the more stable celebrity couples, Bloom and Perry faced their fair share of challenges—including the strain of long-distance living.

It’s no surprise that, in many relationships, women often take a backseat—whether to raise children or support their partner’s career. We’ve seen similar stories with stars like Eva Mendes, who stepped away from acting to focus on family with husband Ryan Gosling, and Cameron Diaz, who retired from acting in the late 2010s after marrying Benji Madden, citing a desire for balance and privacy.

Industry norms and family expectations often push women to the brink, leading them to walk away from relationships where they no longer feel fulfilled. Interestingly, both Mendes and Diaz have since returned to the spotlight—Mendes with her Home Essentials collection, and Diaz with a Netflix film alongside Jamie Foxx.

Now, the pattern seems to continue with Katy Perry. After taking time off, she returned to music with the release of her album 143 in September 2024. Unfortunately, the album received mixed reviews and underperformed commercially—factors that may have added stress to her personal life. While her Lifetime Tour brought in decent ticket sales, some cities and fans expressed concern. Perry reportedly contracted a "fever" during her Australian leg of the tour, raising additional fears about potential cancellations.

Orlando Bloom even made a surprise visit to Australia amid what insiders described as "make-or-break" conversations about their future. Sadly, the talks reportedly didn’t go well. Further tension allegedly arose from Perry’s controversial Blue Origin space flight, which Bloom is said to have viewed as "embarrassing"—adding yet another layer of strain to an already pressurized dynamic.

When we say “celebrities are just like us,” this is what we mean. Women often put their dreams on hold for the ones they love, hoping their sacrifices will be worth it. If you think the average working woman is caught in a cycle designed to keep her in debt, imagine the pressure celebrities face. Many stars live on borrowed funds—whether advances from record labels or backend deals from film studios—and when opportunities begin to dwindle, debt looms.

In Perry’s case, it’s possible she received a sizable advance from her label, banking on her star power to recoup the investment. But when the numbers don’t add up, it can create both financial and emotional strain. The need to return to one’s craft—especially music—is often less about passion and more about necessity.

So what ultimately led to the split? According to insiders, it appears to be a combination of career disappointment, long-distance challenges, and growing tension between the two. Whatever the full story, we wish both Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom healing and happiness as they embark on new chapters in their lives.
