MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Both you and your spouse must be at least 18 years old when you submit the Spouse visa application. This ensures legal adulthood, a requirement for a legally binding marriage, and prevents forced marriages. UK Spouse visa applications involving individuals under 18 years will not be recognized under UK immigration law.

SPONSOR AND RELATIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Your partner must be a British citizen or have ILR or a settled status in the United Kingdom. As such, you must demonstrate your long-term commitment by providing your plans with your partner in the UK.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: To obtain a UK Spouse visa, you must prove your ability to speak and understand English. To prove the English language requirement, you must take a Home Office-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). For an initial application for a UK Spouse visa, you must get up to Level A1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
