We did the shopping and research, so you don’t have to. As inflation continues to rise and we see the cost of goods and services going up, we know of a few brands who remain committed to their consumers; prices will remain affordable, and they will never compromise on quality. Reel Paper products are made from 100% bamboo and manufactured right here in the United States and some parts of Canada.

What Does Bamboo Mean Exactly? This seems to be a common question on the rise: is it true, is Bamboo Sustainable? One user said, “I recently switched my household paper to Bamboo with Reel Paper after first switching my toothbrush from plastic from another company. I am now wondering how much farther I should go.” This is a common feeling among consumers as the number of goods we can purchase made from bamboo increases: clothing, utensils, toilet paper, and bath towels.

Bamboo is a fast-growing and naturally renewable tree-like grass. It requires little to no maintenance to farm as it doesn’t need any pesticides or herbicides and very little water to grow. Sounds good, right? Bamboo produces 35% more oxygen and research has shown that bamboo can absorb as much as 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare per year. Additionally, bamboo grows very fast, taking about 1 to 3 years to reach maturity.

Bamboo can also regrow from its incredible root system – it does not need to be planted again. It is great from a naturally renewable perspective, but this also means that the soil and roots aren’t disturbed which is great for soil health. Producing bamboo takes less energy and other resources compared to wood or steel. But what about fabric? On the surface, bamboo looks like a sustainable solution for the textile industry and so it is not impossible, but it is also no easy feat. Turning rough bamboo grass into a usable fabric requires an extensive and chemical-heavy process.

Once the yarn is produced it is treated with dyes, bleaches, and formaldehyde. The end product is a rayon fabric that is far from natural or organic. The same can be said about the production of cotton since it is often treated using a chemical process. However, unlike bamboo, it is possible to fairtrade certified and sustainable cotton. So, the question remains, is there a benefit to bamboo sheets? Well, yes and no. Reel Paper does not sell bamboo sheets due to this extremity, but if you’re willing to do thorough research and ask the tough questions to other companies producing the fabric, then, of course, it could be a good investment.

What Is the Process Behind Bamboo Fabrics? There is an alternative to turning bamboo into textile fabrics and the process is considered greener since fewer resources and chemicals are used. But it is still an energy-intensive process that involves shredding, mashing, and combing before spinning the fiber into yarn.

Companies like Luxome – share that their items are made from love. With their inventory spanning from robes to bed sheets and weighted blankets. However, information on where or how their bamboo fabrics are produced remains conveniently lost on the opulent and informative website. If you are a consumer of their products it is pertinent that questions are asked as it pertains to their fabric, manufacturing, carbon footprint, and process. For someone considering the use of Bamboo sheets, this is a good place to start. Asking questions and doing some research.

What Are the Benefits of Bamboo Sheets?

  • The sheets are no doubt soft and comfortable: Only a few fabrics can rival the comfort of bamboo, as it is breathable and extremely dense. Great if you have sensitive skin.

  • Toughness: Bamboo sheets stretch long fibers across the whole size of the textile making them less susceptible to tearing than conventional sheets. I recommend this over most of the sheet options found in Target because after a few washes prepare for discomfort.

  • Hypoallergenic: Many good bamboo sheets are hypoallergenic as well and normally ward off bugs such as an allergen. Your sheets will never create mold or mildew, remaining fresh as well as new after considerable usage.

So, is it Worth It? After an extensive amount of research, yes. Bamboo sheets are most definitely worth the investment. But most companies are selling the trend versus the truth and that is what you want to be cautious of. Here, we won’t steer you wrong as we are all about trust, dependability, and reliability.
